I believe the current word is 'fellowship'. Mass is chock full of things that were deemed unnecessary for faith and salvation as time went on, so as churches continued to split, more and more things were eschewed. Can't give you a specific history, though, because It's been a while since I delved in to it...

Isn't mass a strictly Catholic thing? I thought for Christians it was a Sermon/Communion ceremony?

Ya, so I've heard! I guess I was just ignorant. I was under the impression that mass was mass was mass... and whenever christians went into the church and sat down and listened, it was a "mass".

Thanks for clearing that up though :)
